One of the things we have noticed in the weddings we have done in 2022 is that more and more people are opting for a more intimate celebration and choosing an afternoon reception rather than an evening one. We always love intimate micro weddings as couples are able to spend more time with their guests and afternoon weddings means there is plenty of sunlight for beautiful pictures. Especially when Vancouver is so stunning in July, it truly is the best time to have a summer garden wedding.
This beautiful afternoon wedding took place at one of our favourite venues in Vancouver, the Hycroft Manor. This is a venue with beautiful architecture and plenty of old world charm so we wanted to include that in the design along with plenty of flowers for that dreamy romantic look.
For our couple A&J, we decided to design a wedding that is like a floral daydream. For the colour palette, we choose a mixture of deeper and more vibrant colours to give it that fun and captivating look. We also incorporated some of the European flair by choosing a classic invitation design done on handmade paper with plenty of floral elements.
While weddings at Hycroft are usually done at the rose garden, under the terrace, or at the Juliette balcony, we wanted something more special and not typically done. We designed the wedding in so that the ceremony took place at the stairs leading up to the house itself. Typically, the couple will walk down the stairs from inside the house, but we decided to flip it the other way so that the stunning venue will be the backdrop for the ceremony and the staircase is at the front of the ceremony. With the majestic pillars framing our couple, we wanted a romantic focal point, so we designed an open asymmetrical lush floral arch that flowed down to the first few steps. This stunning floral creation gave the wedding a whimsical and floral daydream for our couple and also served to be the perfect area for the cake cutting moment.
A special part of the wedding is the wedding favour for guests. It was a beautiful sunny day at their wedding, but our couple knows full well that this is not always the case in Vancouver. They wanted to give something meaningful and useful to their guests, so they gifted everyone with an umbrella with a custom design of two little ducks, representing A&J.
Summer garden weddings can sometimes be a bit too sunny or too hot for guests. But we were truly blessed with the perfect weather for this floral daydream inspired celebration. Perhaps one of our favourite moments was when at the end of the wedding, the guests had all left, and our groom told us he wanted to take a seat to see how it feels to be a guest. He took a seat, laughed to himself and said, “Wow, everything looks so beautiful, I really would have loved to have attended as a guest for a wedding like this.”
