As Vancouver wedding planners, there is a list of well known wedding venues in the city and VanDusen Garden is a popular choice for many couples to have their outdoor weddings. We planned and designed this for our couple M&A, who travelled all the way from San Francisco to be married here. This dreamy and romantic summer VanDusen Garden wedding is one of our recent favorite outdoor wedding.
The Design
For this couple, we wanted to embrace the beauty of the garden, especially the Heron Lake area. We were inspired by the impressive willow tree with its gentle swaying branches with the sparkling sunlight dancing atop the water in the background. We wanted to design this wedding with the intention of creating a summer afternoon by the meadow with beautiful flowers and greenery. To do this, we chose to use sunny and delicate pastel colours to reflect the happiness of the summer season. In particular, we chose to use shades of purples, pinks, and creamy yellows to bring a touch of brightness and fun.
VanDusen Wedding Ceremony
The ceremony took place at Heron Lake, right under the beautiful willow tree. We chose to have ground florals in a semi-curved shape to complement the surrounding beauty. The aisle was also filled with tall floral arrangements to create a dreamy and natural look to surround guests with florals.
Our beautiful bride wore a Nicole Couture wedding dress and her bridesmaids all chose their favourite dress design in a shade of purple from Birdie Grey. For the bride, her bouquet was done in the colour palette with plenty of unique blooms and textures. It was in a natural and relaxed design, complete with a pop of colour from the beautiful yellow silk ribbon. Both the bridesmaids bouquet and the boutonnieres were also designed to complement the bridal bouquet.
VanDusen Wedding Reception
We wanted to bring the botanical garden indoors for the reception, so we incorporated plenty of florals for each table. For the head table, we chose to create a simple greenery design for a natural touch and surround the front with plenty of tall floral arrangements.
Garden Wedding Details
For the wedding cake, our couple decided not to have it in a traditional style but requested for a cake that looked like a replica of their favourite plushy cartoon which has a special meaning to both of them. They also had a donut tower as part of the wedding cake setup as they both loved donuts. As part of their guest’s gift, we designed personalised donut bags for the guests so everyone could leave with a sweet late night snack.
A special detail about this wedding is that our couple didn’t do a traditional bouquet toss, but rather a plushie toss. Not only were the guests happily surprised at this unique touch, the kids were especially enthusiastic about joining in the game.
This wedding was truly one that looked like a Monet painting, full of dreamy soft colours and the warm summer sunlight. It was the perfect summer wedding where the food and drinks were flowing, endless laughter, and plenty of beautiful memories made on a special day full of love and beauty.
