We are always surrounded by plenty of colours and sounds and sometimes it is hard to hear the inner voice in our hearts. Sometimes I just want to sit by a window quietly in the morning with the light streaming in and just find a moment of tranquility before I start the day.

For this shoot (featured on Once Wed) that we planned and designed, we wanted a style with minimal colours that illustrates a quiet dreamy escape. We wanted to create something that is elegant with a focus on natural/neutral tones with plenty of white.

As we were playing with similar tones and colours, it was quite different from some of the other shoots or wedding designs that we have done. There are a few things that we focused on to bring all the elements of this shoot together and give it an elegant and feminine touch. Here are 3 tips in creating an elegant neutral tone wedding style.

1. Textures

When bringing out the beauty of neutral tones, it is important to focus on textures. As many colours are similar, presenting various textures will give it more depth and definition. We paid special attention to the dress as we wanted it to draw out the feminine and romantic beauty of the design.

The wispy ruffles and the delicate web of lace overlaying the plunging neckline was the perfect way to bring the elegance and refined touch. Contrasting this refined and delicate style, we chose to use something more solid and substantial in the form of the ceramics and natural linens for the table and parts of the floral installation.

2. Key Element or Inspiration

To tie everything in, it is helpful to choose an element or use an item that will serve as a central point or inspiration. The key element for this shoot are the snowy white eggshells. Whether it’s the colour, the delicate texture, or the jagged edges from a cracked egg, we used those elements to inspire the other parts of our shoot.

One of the more visible connection between the key element and other parts of the shoot is the hand torn edges of the invitations that mimics the broken egg shells. Not only does the torn edges look more natural and eggshell like, it also adds more texture.

3. Keeping it simple

Neutral tones gives the feeling of something raw, natural, and comfortable. There are touches of pureness in the white tones and also a sense of openness. To draw out the feelings that these colours bring, it is best to keep things simple and uncrowded. For our floral installation, we choose to use only one kind of flower and is simply designed so that the focus could be on the visual movement and flow. The table is also kept to a minimal with a few ceramics plates and clean natural linen to evoke the sense of simplicity and openness.
