Korean Wedding in Vancouver

Every relationship is special and unique in it’s own way. Likewise, for the couples that we work with, what they are looking for in their wedding is also different. For our couple M&J who had a Korean wedding in Vancouver, they came to us because they liked our style and design. They didn’t have specific things they wanted at their wedding or certain colours that they would like. But because they already like our work, they trusted us, as their wedding planners and designers with their wedding design.

Their wedding took place at the beautiful Hycroft in early May where the flowers have just started to bloom for Spring. We were so thankful and blessed to have such beautiful weather with the warm sunlight throughout the day.

The Design

For this couple, we wanted to design something that was reflective of their love and personalities. A wedding design that was dreamy and romantic but with a touch of freshness to showcase the beauty of spring. As Hycroft has plenty of lush greenery, we wanted to complement the beauty with various tones of soft peach, pink, mauve, and cream. The overall colour palette is soft spring colours that is modern and romantic.

While our couples often choose to have their ceremony at the Rose Garden, we wanted a smaller area as M&J’s wedding was smaller. We decided to use the Juliette Balcony as their ceremony space for a more intimate atmosphere and it allowed our bride to have a grand entrance with the staircase.

As the ceremony focal point, we wanted to create a floating floral arrangement. This was designed in an open circle on top of acrylic stands so that when M&J stands in the middle of it, it gives the image that they are surrounded by the florals. With the dreamy floral arrangements on top of acrylic stands, this gave a beautiful modern touch to the overall romantic and classic design of the venue. We also chose acrylic grace chairs to tie in with the design for a cohesive look.

For the reception, we took the floral design and rearranged them to surround the sweetheart table to continue with the floating floral style.  For the guest tables under the terrace, we used long rectangular tables with satin tablecloths in a soft latte colour for elegance with floral arrangements throughout. We also interspersed bud vases with beautiful spring blooms in between the floral arrangement for a minimalistic look. These bud vases also served as wedding favours for the guests to take home at the end of the night.

Traditional Korean Wedding Elements

M&J is such a warm hearted couple and there were some things that truly reflected who they were at the wedding. Both M&J are Korean and while this wasn’t a traditional Korean style wedding, they still incorporated important parts of the Korean wedding into their day. At the end of the ceremony, they did the traditional Korean bow to both sides of their parents as a show of their thankfulness and appreciation to them. While there was no hanbok, that moment was just as special and the emotions that can be felt throughout the guests show just how much love and support they have received from their family.

Another special moment is the first song that M&J shared with their guests. While most couples have a first dance, they opted instead for a first song. They chose to sing a duet of the Disney song “I see the light” and it was absolutely beautiful. It was such a unique way to begin the reception and all the guests were enraptured with their captivating singing.

The perfect weather, the happy tears that were shed, this was a memorable and beautiful wedding. At the end of the day, with our bride dressed in a simple pink dress and a long beautiful bow in her hair, she looked like the modern fairytale princess who has found her prince. The day was only the beginning of their happily ever after.
