Sometimes as I’m walking around the street, or browsing the internet, I come across some interesting company names. Sometimes the company would explain the meaning of their name, and sometimes it’s pretty self-explanatory based on their service or the things they sell. I’ve always been curious as to why or how people name their company. Did something happen? Is it a tribute to something or someone? Or perhaps there’s some hidden stories that gives an extra layer of depth and meaning to the name that is not so easily seen by others? As I have a lot of interest and curiosity about other company’s name I thought there may be someone out there that is just as curious as I am and might be wondering how we came up with the name Honour and Blessing. Let me share with you our little story behind Honour and Blessing.
As some of you may know, Honour and Blessing Events wasn’t the original name that we had. When we first started the company, we were called Effervescence Weddings. We had chosen that name because we liked how it sounded elegant and classic and also because it’s used to describe the bubbles in champagne, a drink that’s commonly used in celebrations. However, as time went on, we decided to change our name to something that’s more representative of us.
Finding a name is never easy and is somewhat of a journey in itself. I remember when I was young, I was playing a game where I had to name my character. It took me such a long time to come up with something that I liked. That was just a game and to rename our company was a completely different story. There were mainly two things we were considering when we were thinking about our name. The first is that we wanted it to be a name that is representative of who we are or what is important to us. Secondly we wanted it to be reflective of what we hope our company will be as an event and wedding planning company. With a combination of these two things, it definitely didn’t make our job any easier.
Days turned to weeks, weeks turned to months, but we still couldn’t come up with a name that we wanted. We had multiple brainstorming sessions, discussion over coffee, and asking for input from people. Finally, we decided on a few and we began to play around with different variations and combinations. However, in the end, Honour and Blessing is the name that stood out to us the most.
So why did we decide on Honour and Blessing? We decided on this name because it was the one that we felt was able to combine the two things that we were looking for in a name in the best possible way. Just like the fact that we had two different qualities in looking for our name, Honour and Blessing Events is a name that has two different meanings; one for our clients and one for us personally. For our clients, the meaning is that we believe in every event, especially weddings, there are people that you want to honour and there are people that you want to receive blessings from. We believe that in these special moments in your life, it’s not only about celebration, but also remembering those who you respect and you are thankful for. For our personal meaning, our faith and what we believe in is the core that gives us purpose and reason in our life. When we started our company, we knew this was a gift given to us by God and we wanted to thank Him for all that He has done for us. We want to honour God in all that we do and in doing so, we know that will be able to become a blessing to other people.
The name Honour and Blessing wasn’t a “love at first sight” type of name for us. But, it is a name that grew in our hearts over time and we came to really love this name and am certain that it is the one that fits us the best. Sometimes I look back and wonder if it was a mistake in choosing the name Effervescence in the first place. If we found the name Honour and Blessing in the beginning, it would have saved us a lot of time and effort. However, I’ve come to see it as an opportunity for learning and a chance for us to grow. It may have been easier, but we would have missed out on some important lessons and this blessing in disguise.
