This past spring, G+J held a simple and classic wedding at Rosewood Hotel Georgia in Vancouver – a venue on our list of romantic venues in city. This couple was special because we had a connection with them before we met for their wedding. They were referred to us by the bride’s coworker, who was the groom of the very first wedding we had ever planned for. It’s been a few years since the first wedding we planned, but that couple will always have a special place in our hearts. To be able to plan for the groom’s coworker’s wedding brings back so many happy memories and we felt so honoured and blessed.
Concept
After meeting with G&J, we wanted to create something that would bring certain elements of the outdoors indoors and also add some modern touches. They originally wanted an outdoor wedding, but decided to have it indoors because of the unpredictable weather that often happens during May in Vancouver. After some consideration, they decided on Hotel Georgia wedding as the hotel has beautiful indoor decor and had lovely outdoor spots close to the hotel.
As both G&J preferred something simple, we kept a lot of the decor to a minimal and used soft colours such as blush, cream, and touches of grey blue as their colour palette.
Wedding Ceremony and Reception
The Spanish ballroom has high ceilings and elegant decor, so we chose to have one focal point for the ceremony to keep it simple. G&J wanted to bring nature inside, so we designed a floral arch that is not totally enclosed to give it a feeling of openness. We also had the florist arrange the florals and greenery in a loose and overgrown way so it will create a softer and more natural look. Plenty of greenery, a variety of roses, peonies, and other flowers in cream and blush tones were used to create a full arch. The bouquet, arch and centrepieces all used the same flowers to tie all the elements together.
During the reception, the arch was separated into two pieces and placed on either end of the head table to create an enclosed look. The centrepieces were designed to be smaller and lower as G&J wanted their guests to talk freely across the table with more space for dining.
Details
Some interesting details about this wedding is the logo and design of the invitations. As the groom usually creates designs, they decided to create their own logo and invitations. With the bride’s love for the blue sky, they used plenty of watercolour to create the cloud like effect on the invitations as well as the envelope liners. Keeping to the blush and grey blue tones, they chose the colours in the palette for their menus and table numbers.
For G&J, they wanted to give their guests with a wedding favour that they will be able to use even after the wedding. They decided on clear coasters to bring a modern touch to the wedding decor, but also engrave the name of their guest on each one so it’s personalized. Each one not only served as a wedding favour, but also as a place card for the guests.
We spent over a year with G&J and it was so lovely meeting and being able to plan this wedding for both of them. Like the beautiful portraits that was taken on the wedding day, we wish G&J a lifetime filled with plenty of sunshine and happiness.
