A popular question that people often ask us as wedding planners in Vancouver is, “how long do people usually get engaged for?” or “how far in advance do couples begin planning their wedding?”. We always answer that it really depends on the couple and what they are looking for. We have planned for couples who set a date for 18 months out, but we have also worked with those who wanted to get married in under 12 weeks.
Depending on the length of the planning process, we change and cater the timeline so it will be comfortable for the couple, but also ensures that everything is done within the timeframe. For example, we had about 12 weeks to plan a classic wedding at Hycroft Manor for our couple G&T that took place earlier this year.
After getting to know G&T a little more, we know that they are people who like styles that are both natural and elegant. So we wanted to design a wedding that is both classic and timeless for them. Especially with the stunning historical Hycroft building, it would be a lovely setting to bring their wedding to life. For the colour palette, we chose to use the classic combination of ivory and greens for an understated and timeless luxury ambiance. We also wanted to add a bit of romantic and femininity so we incorporated touches of soft pink tones throughout.
Our couple wanted to incorporate some cultural elements into their wedding and these can be seen in both the design and special moments that our couple included. One of these special elements of this wedding is the bridal waiting room, something that is unique to Korean weddings. For Korean weddings, there is typically a special room for the bride to wait before the ceremony begins. Unlike tradition where guests are not supposed to see the bride before the wedding, this room is in fact specially designed for guests to greet the bride ahead of the wedding. We created this for our bride as she is Korean and we wanted her to also have this special moment with her family and friends.
We chose the drawing room at Hycroft as the bridal waiting room and designed florals to surround the settee. With the beautiful fireplace at the back, the hanging chandelier, our bride sitting amongst the flowers with her dear ones, it was the perfect place to capture the beautiful memories. It was also a wonderful area for guests with the abundance of seating areas throughout as they waited to greet our bride.
Another special touch in this wedding is the traditional bow that was incorporated into the ceremony. As our groom is not Korean, they made adjustments to the bow, but still honoured this tradition of bowing to their parents. A simple but meaningful gesture to show their thankfulness and gratitude to their parents who raised them. In honour of the groom’s side, our bride chose to wear a red reception dress as this is an important colour to Chinese culture, especially on the wedding day.
As it was a more intimate wedding, we decided to use the romantic Juliette Balcony for a cozy and romantic ceremony. As a focal point for the ceremony, we designed a very full and natural arch that is filled with white and blush coloured florals. To balance the stunning arch, we kept the aisle simple with small floral arrangements.
For the reception, we continued the design in the long table setting and linens that we chose. We went for a heavy weight cream linen for the guests and a textured linen in ivory with champagne threads woven throughout as a special touch for the sweetheart table. We also moved the arch to be behind the couple to bring the ceremony design to the reception area. Completing the looks are the old world style Louis chairs and cut crystal glassware.
On this beautiful May day, our couple gathered together with their closest family and friends to celebrate their new journey together and the love they have for each other. So many of their guests flew in from all over the world to celebrate with them, some even bringing along their little ones to join in on this happy day. While this classic Hycroft manor wedding may have been one of our shorter planning time weddings, it was nonetheless just as meaningful and beautiful to us.
